As the ongoing crisis continues in Ukraine, we wanted to support the victims of this war and those who are trying to escape from the conflict.
So, we have made a £2,000 donation to DEC, the Disasters Emergency Committee, who are dedicated to getting aid to people in need through their humanitarian appeals.
“The DEC brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas”.
Who are the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC)?
The Disasters Emergency Committee, also known as DEC, is an organisation committed to helping people in crisis situations. DEC’s board of trustees are chief executives from its 15 member charities, which include organisations like Action Against Hunger UK, ActionAid UK, the British Red Cross, Age International and Save the Children UK to name but a few.
Through these member charities and by combining its pool of resources, DEC is able to react quickly to overseas disasters. They have the ability to raise the alarm and launch high-profile appeals through their Rapid Response Network, which includes major media partners.
DEC’s aim is to make it easy for people to donate and to get those donations to people who urgently need help in times of crisis. DEC is part of the Emergency Appeals Alliance (EAA), which is a global group of humanitarian coalitions that operate in a similar way.
DEC has a Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal to help families fleeing the conflict. 11 million people have already fled their homes, many leaving everything behind except items they can carry. Donations are used to provide food, water and shelter, and medicines, healthcare and protection. It is estimated that 18 million people will be directly affected by this conflict.
As an idea of how far donations can reach, £30 is enough to give three people essential hygiene supplies for 1 month. £50 could provide blankets for four families, and £100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month. You can donate here…
