From alarm clocks to planners and organisers, we look at back to school and uni items such as study friendly furniture and bedroom chairs...
As the new academic year approaches, parents, pupils and students across the country are getting ready for the term ahead. There are various items young people can take with them back to school or uni. We’ve listed seven essential items to help them both study and get the best out of their studies…
1. Digital Alarm Clock
Although as adults we tend to use our phone alarms, there are two big reasons why you should consider buying a separate alarm clock for your child. If they’re still at school, then you may have rules around mobile use in the bedroom. So, a separate alarm clock is a really useful way to get children out of bed (and there are some fun designs!). For older pupils or uni students, an alarm clock is a useful backup for when their mobile phone runs out of battery overnight when they forget to charge it!
2. Planners, Notebooks, Diaries
In today’s fast-faced, modern digital world, there's still room for paper notebooks, planners and diaries. They can be really useful for children to draw and practise their handwriting, and teens to use as a diary. Planners are useful for helping GCSE and A Level students manage their revision time and uni students for planning lectures.
3. Highlighters, Marker Pens
Coloured marker pens and highlighters are great revision tools. Printing out important excerpts from study materials and physically highlighting key points can be an efficient way to memorise information. Students can categorise different elements of exam revision by using different colours, and they can highlight info in their planners.
4. Desktop Stationery Organiser
Whether they’re using a dressing table or desk to study, space comes at a premium for most young people. So, a compact desktop organiser is a useful addition to any bedroom, helping them to keep books, folders and tablets close to hand. Some organisers also come with pen holders and mini drawers for stationery items.
5. Flip-Straw Water Bottle
Staying hydrated is important for studying at any time of the year, especially when revising for those early summer exams! A good quality water bottle with the ability to keep water cold for several hours is a handy item, particularly on a hot day.
6. Adjustable Desk Lamp
Often forgotten but essential for those late-night revision sessions, a desk lamp that can be easily adjusted will be treasured! This item can be colour-matched to your child’s décor and there are some trendy desk lamp designs available. LED desk lamps often have adjustable brightness and are energy efficient with a long lifespan.
7. Study Friendly Furniture
Regardless of your child’s age, it’s really important they have supportive furniture to help them focus while studying. Choose a desk that's at the right height for them, an ergonomic chair to support their posture, and a comfortable bed to sleep in. By making sure your child has the right type of furniture in their room, you’ll be reassured they can get more out of their study time and their downtime.
Bedroom chairs for a uni student
There are lots of different chairs available for schoolchildren and university students that will help to enhance their bedroom or student room. Due to its ergonomic design, a gaming chair is a supportive chair because it can be adjusted in various ways including the height and armrests. These types of chairs often recline and some can even rock, swivel and tilt.
If they like gaming, then a swivel-rocker chair can be a useful addition for when they have friends over and are ideal for a compact room. Depending on the room size, an occasional chair can be the perfect solution for when a friend’s visiting. And when they need some quiet time, they can use it to curl up and listen to their favourite tunes or to scroll on their socials.
